Seasonal Wellness with Food

Yes, it is getting colder and darker here in the UK as we move into the new season which is why supporting your immune system is even more important, especially with the changing weather and the approach of flu season. Fortunately, many plant-based foods are packed with vitamins and minerals that can help keep your immune system strong.

Here are some of my top foodie tips for Autumn wellness :

  • Whilst many of us think of fruit as the perfect vitamin bombs, why not in addition also add more dark leafy greens like kale and spinach to your diet, which are rich in vitamins A and C.

  • Also, ginger and turmeric, both known for their anti-inflammatory properties, can be incorporated into soups, teas, or even smoothies to give your immune system a helping hand.

  • Mushrooms, particularly shiitake and maitake, have been shown to have immune-supporting properties too—perfect for autumn stews, risottos or simply pan-fried and on toast.

  • Add some garlic, which is not only a great flavour booster for those dishes but also has antimicrobial properties.

With these simple additions to your plant-based diet, you’ll be nourishing your body and preparing for the colder months ahead.
